Tour Bus Race Tour

Kirsten Mosher, 1993, performance, Stadtfarhrt City Tour, Hamburg, Ein Project von Sabine Siegfried and Eva Bothe

There are two bus drivers and two buses and two groups of passengers.

The passengers board the two buses.

The bus drivers drive the buses to a strip by the docks in Hamburg.

The passengers get out and gather on the edge of the strip, now they are audience.

The bus drivers check over the engines, now they are bus racers.

There is a starting line a flag and a flag waver.

The drag race starts.

One bus wins and the other loses.

The loser complains that his engine wasn’t as good as the winners engine.

The winning bus driver is presented with a bottle of champagne by the artist.

The audience gets on the either the winning bus or the losing bus.

The passengers are driven back again by two bus drivers.

Later there is a party.

Ball Park Traffic

Kirsten Mosher, 1998, backstop, bases, pitcher’s mound, foul lines, stadium lighting, and intersection at Ninth Avenue and 22nd Street, NYC.

“In January Mosher transformed the crosswalk of 9th Avenue and  22nd Street into a temporary baseball diamond complete with backstop, bases and a pitcher’s mound.  The crosswalks, which double as baselines, extend beyond the curb to each base, and the backstop is integrated into a pre - existing fence on the northwest corner of the intersection.  In order to create the backstop, the Public Art Fund engaged Chelsea Gardens to convert a segment of their fence into this essential part of Mosher’s piece.  Fortunately during the winter months this nursery had little use for the outdoor corner of their fenced - in property and agreed to allow Mosher to transform the area into a regulation backstop, complete with the visual metaphor of the intersection as a baseball diamond.”
